I made a bottle of chocolate chip cookies for V-day and bought a jersey for our anniversary. Wanted to finish a cross-stitch pouch to hold a key-pouch but did not managed to complete in time.
Mum requested me to make dinner for CNY and I was very excited. It took me a while to create a 4-course Western dinner menu and I was really anxious and apprehensive of any screw-ups on that annual occasion. Though I've baked and made simple dishes for my family, I've never prepared any main course for them. Thus, cooking still remains a challenge to me.
I woke up early on that Saturday and started preparations from 11am. I worked my way through the whole afternoon right till 5pm where I started baking every 30 mins right up till dinner at 7pm. I was terribly tired after the whole preparation and ended up with a bad headache... Makes me feel kinda useless... I didn't seemed to have much appetite though the food turned up to me better than I had expected. Mum told me that it's very common for the cook not to eat their own food. That's why she always eat so little. It's just like seeing how the cooked food actually come from the raw ingredients and all food tastes blend without any seasoning...
The worse part of the whole preparation is actually marinating the whole chicken... I kept procrastinating but could not avoid massaging the headless dead chicken with countless goose pimples. I've done on parts like wings and drumsticks alone but never the whole chicken...and I guess I'll probably never do it again... or maybe with gloves in future.
This was the end result:
This was my menu:
Appetiser/Salad: Pasta Salad ( Accidentally deleted the photo, it's beside the french onion soup)
Starter/Soup: French Onion Soup
Main Course: Black Pepper Roast Chicken stuffed with mushrooms, potatoes and veg
Dessert: Chocolate Satin Pie
All turned out satisfactory and my parents seemed to be impressed by my cooking..hehe..well, at least mum have not tried preparing these before.. Though the food didn't looked a lot, all 3 of us were filled to our neck... Mum was hoping that I can take over her role in future on this day...*Oh no*
As planned, Love and I met up after dinner for a movie at MS. Ghost-rider wasn't that fanastic afterall. We planned to go for supper after movie, but as I was too tired after the whole day's work, so we headed home.
On the first day of CNY, Love came over to visit my parents and I brought him to Granny's house for the first time... Well, needless to say..he got bored after 2 hours so we left for dinner.
On the second day, his mum invited me to their house to lao yu sheng. His relatives came over for mahjong session and both of us were bored and stranded in his room with his 2 dogs.... It was a dull day for us as well...CNY is always so boring.
On the third day, I was invited to D's house for a gathering. They ordered KFC and C pizza during the DVD session. Very glad to learn about Carol's pregnancy. Met Love in the evening for kite-flying. This was what we did 1 year ago on this day and we intend to make it a tradition. He bought a fabric one, which costs $15 to keep and I bought the cheaper one. The wind was good and we were both expecting it to last for about an hour when our kites got entangled. As I tried to release mine from his...preparing to forgo mine cos there's not enough thread, his snapped the moment mine was released. And there goes our kites in 30 minutes... " Oh no..I'm probably gonna pester you for the rest of your life..." I commented cheekily. Dinner has to start early since it was nearby. We had steamboat followed by a chill-out by the River.
On Saturday, I met the Yu and Juan to skate. It was fun and not as tiring as we've been talking throughout and I had no time to concentrate on the ache on my feet and my fear of falls.
Yu wanted to leave her skates at home before going to Juan's house, so we followed her. Juan's new house was spacious and neat. Her mum invited us to Lao Yu Sheng and they really make us feel like home.
I wonder what would my next February be like..
