Catching up on 2011 in 2013

Whoa... Didn't expect myself to come back here with my blog still exist! It's been a long 2 years and 10 months since my last blog. I have been "photo-blogging" these years on FB but I think it is still good to recall all my events here in words.I cannot remember the exact sequence of events so I'll have to refer closely to FB.

April-May 2011
Went to BKK with Hub in April-May for shopping trip. Ended up not buying much because the prices were not as cheap as before!

We had a new family member in May a weeks after we came back. I was actively volunteering in MWS with my colleagues then, so Hubs and I was thinking of adopting a pet. Just happened that we saw someone posted a picture of 3 kittens and we went down to Boon Keng to have a look.
Bought this 4-w.o. white kitty with a "broken-heart" back and named it Ah Boy as we were so used to thinking that it was a girl.

Jul-Sept 2011
In Jul-Sept, Jean, Yu & ST and Myself went Korea. Jean did not have enough leaves, so she joined us for the 1st half of the trip, 1 day in Seoul and the rest of the days in Jeju. As we arrived back in Seoul,, ST joined us for another 2 nights. As all 4 of us have pretty good cameras and can take good pictures, I must say that this the best photo-travel trip, because I actually see myself in these great pics! Let me share some of my favourite photos here...

Oct-Nov 2011
Grabbed the opportunity to go to US, Florida (again) for an ISTT conference. Brought my mum along using my Krisflyer miles. We took United Airlines because that was the shortest route (26 hrs) but it was really not a great airline to travel with because the was not enough food and no individual in-house entertainment set!! Thankfully I brought along the company's iPad. I had to resort to buying sushi during the transit at Narita.
I was feeling pretty sick for the first few days, bleeding through the nose and, throat, and my backside! And the jet lag did not help. Mum and I slept at 6pm on our 1st day, thinking that we will be up for dinner after a short nap. To our horror, we both woke up at 12mn and there is nothing to eat. Room service wasn't 24 hours either!! We were so hungry then. We went to the the supermarket the next day to stock up on food. There was a microwave in our rooms so we have lots of frozen food in our fridge just in case there is another round of hunger pangs.

The conference held in Tampa was an eye-opener. Scientists from all over the world came together to discuss the same issues we might be facing. it was a fruitful trip for me because I managed to being back some new techniques to implement at work.

After the 4-day conference, we left for Miami and Orlando. Unlike most parts of Northern America, Miami speaks Latin. Our existence as Asians seemed too loud as tourists. I find that Miami was too hyped up. Other than beach dwellers, the city just looks like JB. People were warm and friendly though, except for this taxi driver who demanded tips and turned bitter after giving him some.

Our 2nd time to Orlando WDW is still magical....There are 4 theme parks now- Animal Kingdom is new to us. So we chose Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom to visit during our short 2-night stay. I can't imagine how much Dad has paid in 1995 to bring us to all 3 theme parks for 6 days + 1 day Universal Studios and staying within WDW premises . Dad really dote on us. Magic Kingdom is more or less the same but they have added a few more rides and they were still building more. I particularly love the Nemo musical as I was expecting something of a smaller scale. To my surprise, it was actually equivalent to a full musical, which we might have to pay at least SGD68 in Singapore, yet, this was already in the theme park itself in WDW.
Here are the pics:

Dec 2011
According to FB, I had a very very busy December. Met up with lots of friends and organized a donation drive for Oasis Animal Shelter. The shelter did not receive as much attention as MWS, which was why I wanted to give more attention to it. I have this thing with not going with the popular choice, and love to be an advocate for the underdogs. I don't like monopoly because it creates complacency. With the money I have raised, I managed to buy a few sacks of rice, some detergent and some feed.

"International" was the theme for TSP Christmas 2011. I bought an Egyptian-like dress from the US and I managed to gain votes for the best-dress award. But the prize is a makeover voucher which can only be used on a weekday and expires within a month.I did not use it in the end.

This is a post that I dug out from my ex-colleague's blog when I told him I got attached. I quite like the poem.

Broken

song by Amy Lee and Seether

My heart once loved,
But now its broken,
For my sweetheart
has already been taken,
I once felt loved
but now I'm forsaken,
I found Hell
And lost my Heaven.

My colleague told me that she is officially attached last week. I am happy for her cos her blogs may not be so depressing now ;-) . Anyway, having heard the news triggered some of my memories of my past which inspired me to write the poem above.
